Dentures in Austin, TX

What are

Dentures are a removable dental appliance that replace an entire arch of your teeth, either the top or bottom row of teeth.

The treatment process

Why you should replace your teeth

No matter why you’ve lost your teeth, replacing them is imperative to your oral health. Replacing missing teeth will:

  • Prevent bone loss
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Stop your other teeth from moving into newly vacated spots

Not replacing missing teeth can have consequences that can make oral hygiene more difficult and actually change your appearance because your facial muscles are no longer supported. If you’re missing any teeth, talk to Dr. Nguyen today about your replacement options as soon as possible.

At The Tooth Inc., we offer a few different types of dentures. Dr. Nguyen will discuss these options with you and determine which one is the best for your oral health.

  • Conventional dentures: These dentures replace an entire arch, either the top or bottom row of teeth.
  • Immediate dentures: Immediate dentures are, just as the name suggests, dentures that you will get right after your teeth are removed.
  • Conventional partial dentures: Partial dentures replace some teeth and are secured in place by attaching them to the surrounding teeth.

Getting dentures is a multi-appointment process. During your consultation, Dr. Nguyen will talk to you about your oral health history and your tooth-replacement options. If you need any other teeth extracted, Dr. Nguyen will remove those teeth before proceeding with making your dentures.

After this, she will take impressions of your teeth and gums to have your dentures custom-made for you. Once she gets them back from the lab, Dr. Nguyen will adjust your dentures to make sure they fit you comfortably and provide the support that you need.

Once you have your dentures, you will go through an adjustment period. Some people report minor irritation, increased saliva production, and a feeling of “fullness” in the mouth. However, this should subside as you get used to your dentures.

You will likely have to visit Dr. Nguyen a few times to have your dentures adjusted before you are completely comfortable in them. Don’t forget that this is your time to say something–if anything about your dentures feels uncomfortable or painful, notify Dr. Nguyen as soon as possible.

While adjusting to your new, affordable dentures, you may feel a bit awkward for a few weeks while speaking or eating. Some things you can do to help make the adjustment a little easier are:

  • Practice speaking to yourself in a mirror or reading out loud to yourself until it starts to feel natural
  • Start out by eating only soft foods. Before you get your dentures, stock up on the soft foods so that you can go home without any worries about what you can and cannot eat.
  • Stick with the soft foods for a while, or at least until eating starts to feel a little more normal. As you start to integrate hard food back into your diet, take small bites while you’re adjusting.
  • Be patient with yourself. This is a big adjustment, and it’s normal that it takes time and energy.
